About the Book: Dreams of Betrayal is the first in a series of fantasy adventures based on the author's popular renaissance faire persona Laktos the Intolerable: a quick-witted, medieval-style character who wears a bone-handled broadsword strapped to his back.

The story begins with the queen scheming to take over the kingdom by seducing and using the king's thought-to-be-loyal servant in her assassination attempt. Meanwhile, the story's hero Laktos emerges at the top of a cliff during a treacherous thunder and lightning storm with no knowledge of how he got there or where he came from. Laktos begins a quest to uncover his forgotten past his only vague memory that his sword has been a tool used to fight injustice. Others in the cast of characters are Sifty the barkeep, owner of the seedy Hawk & Spit; Prometheus, the noble dragon possibly the last of his kind; Sturm and Drang, the twisted wizards who control the world from behind the scenes; the fatherly Captain Caruso of the tall ship Morning Star; the love of Laktos' life, Inga; and many others.

Adding their own unique artistry to the book, Steve and his wife Heidi have created delightful drawings for each chapter, capturing the mood of the events which are about to unfold. These illustrations give Dreams of Betrayal a warm, old-world charm that is a rare find in today's marketplace.

Heidi Bosch & author Steve R Romano About the Author: Steve R. Romano shares his Montana ranch with his artist wife Heidi and their much loved pets. In their spare time, Steve creates hand-painted wooden signs (LunamontSigns.com), Heidi makes artistic websites (LunamontWebDesign.com), and they both enjoy painting fine art (LunamontVisions.com).

Steve had always planned one day to write books based on his renaissance faire adventures, so it didn't take much urging from friends who'd read his short stories to get him to turn his dream into reality. He has since published two novels and is working on Dreams of a King as his third (due in 2009).

In his younger days, he served honorably in the US Army as a paratrooper. Steve as Laktos the Intolerable While in the service, he got married and raised two children who are now adults with families of their own. After obtaining a degree in business and another in sign art, he spent several years working in sign painting, all phases of construction, and electrical sign installation. From there, his interests led him into the world of fine art, having since painted dozens of fantasy airbrush paintings.

Spring through fall, he's an avid pirate festival and renaissance faire-goer who dresses in costume and interacts with guests in the guise of the colorful character, Laktos the Intolerable. Laktos is well known throughout the renaissance faire community and is also known as "The Bone Man" because of the hand-made bone-handled sword he straps on his back. Much of the book was inspired by the author's real-life trials and adventures, and the book's hero and hero's love interest were based on Steve and Heidi's "faire" personae (i.e., Laktos and Captain Cuckoo). To see them in action, please visit PrivateerDragons.com, a pirate-themed web site which chronicles Steve and Heidi's adventures at pirate festivals and renaissance faires. Photo © Heidi Bosch

In the summer, Steve enjoys working as a wrangler at local dude ranches where he meets people from all over the world, many of whom have become treasured friends.

Steve's hobbies include horseback riding; skiing; hiking; landscaping; carpentry; working on his classic '68 Camaro; camping; and exploring old abandoned gold and silver mines and other historical sites.

The books in this fantasy series are (1) Dreams of Betrayal, (2) Realm of Nightmares and (3) Dreams of a King (due in 2009).
